It went through five See also:editions before 1728, and gained the author much reputation. In the See also:year after its publication he was invited to See also:Giessen as See also:professor of See also: His next work, Geheimniss der gottlichen See also:Sophia, published in 1700, seemed to indicate that he had See also:developed a See also:form of See also:mysticism. Soon afterwards, however, his See also:acceptance of a pastorate marked a See also:change, and he produced a number of noteworthy See also:works on See also:practical theology. He was also known as the author of sacred poems. Gottfried Arnold has rightly been classed with the pietistic See also:section of Protestant historians (Bibliotheca Sacra, 1850).
