He was in continuous employment during the See also:peace of 1748-1756, and on the outbreak of the Seven Years' See also:War served with See also:Hawke in the Basque roads in command of the " See also:Achilles " ‘6o). In 1759 the " Achilles " captured a powerful See also:French See also:privateer, after two See also:hours' fighting. In the See also:Havre-de-See also:Grace expedition of the same See also:year Barrington's See also:ship carried the See also:flag of See also:Rear-Admiral See also:Rodney, and in 176o sailed with See also:John See also:Byron to destroy the See also:Louisburg fortifications. At the peace in 1763 Barrington had been almost continuously afloat for twenty-two years. He was next appointed in 1768 to the See also:frigate " See also:Venus " as See also:governor to the See also:duke of See also:Cumberland, who remained with him in all ranks from See also:midshipman to rear-admiral. In 1778 the-BA RISTER 43 duke's flag-See also:captain became See also:tear-admiral and weiit to the See also:West Indies, while in See also:conjunction With the See also:army he took the See also:island of See also:Santa See also:Lucia from the French, and tepulsed the See also:attempt of the See also:Comte d'See also:Estaing to' retake it. Superseded after a See also:time by Byron, he remained as that officer's second-in-command and was See also:present at See also:Grenada and St. Kitts (6th and 22nd of See also:July 1779). On his return See also:home, he was offered, but refused, the command of the Channel See also:fleet. His last active service was the See also:relief of See also:Gibraltar in See also:October 1782.

As admiral he flew his flag for a See also:

short time in 1790, but was not employed in the French revolutionary See also:wars. He died in 'Soo. See Ralfe, See also:Naval See also:Biographies, i. 120; See also:Charnock, Biographia Navalis, vi. to.
