JOSEPH FLORENTIN (1833— ), See also:French painter, was See also:born at See also:Bayonne on the loth of See also:June 1833. He was educated in See also:Spain, under Madrazo at See also:Madrid, and his See also:long See also:series of portraits shows the See also:influence of Velasquez and the See also:Spanish realists. In 1869 he won a See also:medal of See also:honour at See also:Paris, where he became one of the leading artists of his See also:day, and in 1888 he became See also:professor of See also:painting at the Ecole See also:des See also:Beaux Arts. In May 1905 he succeeded See also:Paul See also:Dubois as director. His vivid portrait-painting is his most characteristic See also:work, but his subject pictures, such as the " Martyrdom of St See also:Denis " in the See also:Pantheon, are also famous. BONNE-CARRERE, See also:GUILLAUME DE (1754—1825), French diplomatist, was born at Muret in See also:Languedoc on the 13th of See also:February 1754. He began his career in the See also:army, but soon entered the See also:diplomatic service under See also:Vergennes. A friend of See also:Mirabeau and of See also:Dumouriez, he became very active at the Revolution, and Dumouriez re-established for him the See also:title of director-See also:general of the See also:department of See also:foreign affairs (See also:March 1792). He remained at the See also:ministry, preserving the habits of the See also:diplomacy of the old regime, until See also:December 1792, when he was sent to See also:Belgium as See also:agent of the See also:republic, but he was involved in the See also:treason of Dumouriez and was arrested on the 2nd of See also:April 1793. To justify himself, he published an See also:account of his conduct from the beginning of the Revolution. He was freed from See also:prison in See also:July 1794. See also:Napoleon did not See also:trust him, and gave him only some unimportant See also:missions.

After 1815 Bonne-Carrere retired into private See also:

life, directing a profitable business in public carriages between Paris and See also:Versailles.
