Residing at See also:Paris as a teacher of See also:mathematics, he became a See also:disciple of See also:Comte, who appointed him his See also:literary executor. On the See also:schism of the Positivist See also:body which followed Comte's See also:death, he was recognized as See also:head of the See also:section which accepted the full Comtian See also:doctrine; the other section adhering to See also:Lime, who rejected the See also:religion of humanity as inconsistent with the See also:materialism of Comte's earlier See also:period. From 1853 Laffitte delivered Positivist lectures in the See also:room formerly occupied by Comte in the See also:rue See also:Monsieur le See also:Prince. He published See also:Les Grands Types de l'humanite (1875) and Cours de philosophie premiere (1889). In 1893 he was appointed to the new See also:chair founded at the See also:College de See also:France for the exposition of the See also:general See also:history of See also:science, and it was largely due to his See also:inspiration that a statue to Comte was erected in the See also:Place de la See also:Sorbonne in 1902. He died on the 4th of See also:January 1903. LA FL$CHE, a See also:town of western France, See also:capital of an See also:arrondissement in the See also:department of See also:Sarthe on the See also:Loire, 31 M. S.S.W. of Le Mans by See also:rail. Pop. (1906) town 7800; See also:commune 10,663. The See also:chief See also:interest of the town lies in the Pry tanee, a famous school for the sons of See also:officers, originally a college founded for the See also:Jesuits in 1607 by See also:Henry IV.

The buildings, including a See also:

fine See also:chapel, were erected from 162o to 1653 and are surrounded by a See also:park. A See also:bronze statue of Henry IV. stands in the See also:market-place. La See also:Fleche is the seat of a sub-See also:prefect and of a tribunal of first instance, and carries on tammng, See also:flour-milling, and the manufacture of See also:paper, See also:starch, wooden shoes and gloves. It is an agricultural market. The lords of La Fleche became See also:counts of See also:Maine about 11oo, but the lordship became See also:separate from the See also:county and passed in the 16th See also:century to the See also:family of See also:Bourbon and thus to Henry IV.
