PUERTO REAL , a seaport of See also:southern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Cadiz; on the See also:north See also:shore of the inner See also:arm of the See also:Bay of Cadiz and on the See also:Seville-Cadiz railway. Pop. (1900), 10,535. Puerto Real (See also:Port Royal) is the See also:Portus Gaditanus of the See also:Romans, and is probably the most See also:ancient trading-station on the Bay of Cadiz. It owes its See also:modern name to the fact that it was rebuilt in 1488 by See also:Ferdinand and See also:Isabella. The port has See also:good quays, a dry See also:dock of the See also:Spanish Transatlantic See also:Company, connected with their important See also:works, and safe anchorage See also:close to the wharves for the largest steamers.
