STOTHARD, See also:CHARLES See also:ALFRED (1786—1821) , antiquarian draughtsman, son of See also:Thomas Stothard (q.v.), was See also:born in See also:London on the 5th of See also:July 1786. After studying in the See also:schools of the Royal See also:Academy, he began, in 1810, his first See also:historical piece, the See also:Death of See also:Richard II. in See also:Pomfret See also:Castle. He published in 1811 the first See also:part of his valuable See also:work, The Monumental See also:Effigies of See also:Great See also:Britain. He was appointed historical draughtsman to the Society of Antiquaries, and was deputed by that See also:body to visit See also:Bayeux to make drawings of the See also:tapestry. He was made a See also:fellow of the society in 1819, and subsequently engaged in numerous journeys with the view of illustrating the See also:works of D. Lysons. While engaged in tracing a portrait from one of the windows of the See also:church of See also:Beer See also:Ferrers, See also:Devonshire, he See also:fell and was killed on the spot (May 27, 1821). His widow (after-wards Mrs See also:Bray), with her See also:brother, completed his Monumental Effigies, See also:left unfinished at his death. A See also:biography, by his widow, was published in 1823.
