Captain Fiegenschuh, with a small force of tirailleurs, and Acyl's contingents, advanced up the Batha to a See also:place within 15 M. of Abeshr, where, on the 1st of See also:June, the enemy were defeated. The next See also:day another fight took place See also:close to Abeshr. The Wadaians were again put to See also:flight and the See also:town bombarded with See also:cannon. Doud Murra with a small following fled See also:north, and Abeshr was occupied by the See also:French. The See also:prince Acyl was subsequently placed on the See also:throne, and, under French guidance, governed See also:Wadai proper, See also:Dar See also:Sila, Dar Runga and other tributary states being directly governed by French residents. The See also:war was not, however, ended by the occupation of Abeshr. Captain Fiegenschuh's See also:column, operating See also:south-See also:east of Abeshr, was cut off by the Massalit See also:Arabs near the See also:Darfur frontier, but a punitive force retrieved this disaster in See also:April following. While these operations were in progress, Lieut. See also:Boyd See also:Alexander (b. 1873), who had previously crossed from the See also:Niger to the See also:Nile, the first See also:British explorer to enter Wadai, passed through Abeshr on his way to Darfur. At the station of Nyeri, in Dar Tama, on the Darfur border, he was murdered on the 2nd of April 1910. In See also:November 1910 a French column, 300 strong, under See also:Colonel Moll, while operating in the Massalit See also:country was at-tacked by 5000 men under Doud Murra and the See also:sultan of the Massalit.
