In command of the light infantry of this famous See also:corps he took part with See also:Lord See also:Cathcart in the Hanoverian expedition of 18o5 and in the See also:siege of See also:Copenhagen in 1807, and was with See also:Moore in See also:Sweden and See also:Spain, as well as in the disastrous Walcheren expedition. He was soon employed once more in the See also:Peninsula, and at See also:Albuera commanded a See also:brigade. In See also:April 1813 See also:Wellington placed him at the See also:head of the famous " Light See also:Division " (43rd, 52nd, 95th, and Cacadores), in which See also:post he worthily continued the records of Moore and See also:Robert See also:Craufurd at Nivelle, Nive, See also:Orthez and
See also:Toulouse. His See also:officers presented him with a See also:sword of See also:honour as a token of their esteem. In 1815 Alten commanded Wellington's 3rd division and was severely wounded at See also:Waterloo. His conduct won for him the See also:rank of See also:Count von Alten. When the King's German Legion ceased to exist, Alten was given the command of the Hanoverians in See also:France, and in 1818 he returned to See also:Hanover, where he became subsequently See also:minister of See also:war and See also:foreign affairs, and See also:rose to be See also:- FIELD (a word common to many West German languages, cf.
