His " See also:Flight of See also:Tilly " (1841), " See also:Prince See also:Eugene at the Battle of See also:Belgrade " (1843; in the See also:Cologne museum), " Flight of See also:Charles II. after the Battle of See also:Worcester " (See also:Berlin See also:National See also:Gallery), " See also:Cromwell's See also:Cavalry " (See also:Munich Pinakothek), are his See also:principal earlier pictures; and his " See also:Frederick the See also:Great at See also:Potsdam," " Frederick II. and the See also:Bayreuth Dragoons at Hohenfriedburg," and pictures of the See also:Schleswig-See also:Holstein See also:campaign and the See also:war of 1866 (notably " Lines of Diippel after the Battle," at the Berlin National Gallery), made him famous in See also:Germany as a representative of patriotic historical See also:art. He also painted many portraits of German princes and celebrated soldiers and statesmen. He died at Dusseldorf on the 16th of See also:June 1885.
