KLOPP, ONNO (1822–1903) , See also:German historian, was See also:born at See also:Leer on the 9th of See also:October 1822, and was educated at the See also:universities of See also:Bonn, See also:Berlin and See also:Gottingen. For a few years he was a teacher at Leer and at See also:Osnabruck; but in 1858 he settled at See also:Hanover, where he became intimate with See also:King See also:George V., who made him his Archivrat. Thoroughly disliking See also:Prussia, he was in hearty See also:accord with George in resisting her aggressive policy; and after the See also:annexation of Hanover in 1866 he accompanied the exiled king to Hietzing. He became a See also:Roman See also:Catholic in 1874. He died at Penzing, near See also:Vienna, on the 9th of See also:August 1903. Klopp is best known as the author of Der Fall See also:des Hauses See also:Stuart (Vienna, 1875–1888), the fullest existing See also:account of the later Stuarts. His Der See also:Konig See also:Friedrich II. and See also:seine Politik (See also:Schaffhausen, 1867) and Geschichte Ostfrieslands (Hanover, 1854–1858) show his dislike of Prussia. His other See also:works include Der dreissigjahrige Krieg bis zum Tode Gustav Adolfs (See also:Paderborn, 1891–1896) ; a revised edition of his See also:Tilly See also:im dreissigjahrigen Kriege (See also:Stuttgart, 1861); a See also:life of George V., Konig Georg V. (Hanover, 1878) ; Phillipp See also:Melanchthon (Berlin, 1897). He edited Corrispondenza epistolare tra Leopoldo I. imperative ed it P. Marco l'Aviano capuccino (Gratz, 1888). Klopp also wrote much in See also:defence of George V. and his claim to Hanover, including the Offizieller Bericht fiber See also:die Kriegsereignisse zwischen Hannover and Preussen im Juni i866 (Vienna, 1867), and he edited the works of See also:Leibnitz in eleven volumes (1861–1884).
