marquis de Voyer de Paulmy d'See also:Argenson (1721-1782), known as the marquis de Voyer, son of Marc See also:Pierre de Voyer, the See also:minister of See also:war, was See also:born in See also:Paris on the 20th of See also:September 1721. He served in the See also:army of See also:Italy and the army of See also:Flanders in the War of the See also:Austrian See also:Succession, and was mestre de See also:camp (proprietary See also:colonel) of the See also:regiment of See also:Berry See also:cavalry at the See also:battle of See also:Fontenoy (May Io, 1745), where he was promoted brigadier. He was associated with his See also:father in his See also:work of reorganizing the army, was made inspector of cavalry and dragoons (1749), and succeeded his father as See also:master of the See also:horse (1752). He introduced See also:English horses into See also:France. He was See also:lieutenant-See also:general of Upper See also:Alsace in 1753 and See also:governor of See also:Vincennes in 1754, and served afterwards under See also:Soubise in the Seven Years' War. He was wounded at See also:Crefeld in 1758, and was promoted lieutenant-general (1759). He followed his father into See also:exile at See also:Les Ormes (1763), and in the last years of the reign of See also:Louis XV. sided with the malcontents headed by See also:Choiseul; but on the rupture with See also:England he rejoined the service of the See also:king (1775). He was appointed inspector of the See also:sea-See also:board, and put the roadstead of the See also:island of See also:Aix in a See also:state of See also:defence during the See also:American War of See also:Independence. He caught See also:marsh-See also:fever while attempting to drain the marshes of See also:Rochefort, and died at Les Ormes on the 18th of September 1782.
