He was of See also:barbarian parentage and was brought up as a shepherd. His immense stature and enormous feats of strength attracted the See also:attention of the emperor Septimius See also:Severus. He entered the See also:army, and under See also:Caracalla See also:rose to the See also:rank of See also:centurion. He carefully absented himself from See also:court during the reign of See also:Heliogabalus, but under his successor See also:Alexander Severus, was appointed supreme See also:commander of the Roman armies. Maximinus, who was in See also:Pannonia at the See also:time, marched against See also:Rome, and passing over the See also:Julian See also:Alps descended on See also:Aquileia; while detained before that See also:city he and his son were murdered in their See also:tent by a See also:body of See also:praetorians.
