He was educated at Trinity See also:College, See also:Cambridge, where he graduated M.A. in 1858. He then spent two years travelling in the See also:East. He married in 1863 Alice de Bra, daughter of the director of the See also:Ottoman See also:Bank in Beirout. The third See also:child of this See also:marriage, See also:Eric, who died at the See also:age of five, is commemorated in Roden Noel's best-known See also:book of See also:verse, A Little Child's See also:Monument (1881). His other volumes are Behind the See also:Veil, and other Poems (1863), not included in his collected See also:works, See also:Beatrice, and other Poems (1868), The Red See also:Flag (1872), See also:Livingstone in See also:Africa (1874), Songs of the Heights and Deeps (1885), A See also:Modern See also:Faust, and other Poems (1888), Poor See also:People's See also:Christmas (1890) and My See also:Sea, and other Poems (1896). Roden Noel's versification was unequal and sometimes harsh, but he has a genuine feeling for nature, and the See also:work is permeated by philosophic thought. The latter See also:part of his See also:life was spent at See also:Brighton, but he died at See also:Mainz, on the 26th of May 1894. His other works include a See also:drama in verse, The See also:House of See also:Ravensburg (1877), a Life of See also:Byron (1890, " See also:Great Writers " See also:series), a selection of See also:Thomas See also:Otway's plays (1888) for the " Mermaid " series, and See also:critical papers on literature and See also:philosophy. His Collected Poems were edited (1902) by his See also:sister, See also:Victoria See also:Buxton, with a See also:notice by J. Addington See also:Symonds, which had origin-ally appeared in the See also:Academy (19th of See also:Jan. 1899) as a See also:review of The Modern Faust.
