CHANDOS, See also:SIR See also:JOHN (?-137o) , one of the most celebrated See also:English commanders of the 14th See also:century. ` He is found at the See also:siege of See also:Cambrai in 1337, and at the See also:battle of See also:Crecy in 1346. At the battle of See also:Poitiers, in 1356, it was he who decided the See also:day and saved the See also:life of the See also:Black See also:Prince. For these services See also:Edward III. made him a See also:knight of the Garter, gave him the lands of the See also:viscount of See also:Saint Sauveur in Cotentin, and appointed him his See also:lieutenant in See also:France and See also:vice-See also:chamberlain of the royal See also:household. In 1362 he was made See also:constable of See also:Aquitaine, and won the victories of See also:Auray (1364) and Navaret in See also:Spain (1367) over Duguesclin. He was See also:seneschal of See also:Poitou in 1369, and was mortally wounded at the See also:bridge of Lussac near Poitiers on the 31st of See also:December. He died on the following day, the 1st of See also:January 1370.
