CHIMAY , a See also:town in the extreme See also:south-See also:east of the See also:province of See also:Hainaut, See also:Belgium, dating from the 7th See also:century. Pop. (1904) 3383. It is more commonly spoken of as being in the See also:district entre Sambre et See also:Meuse. Owing to its proximity to the See also:French frontier it has undergone many sieges, the last of which was in 164o, when See also:Turenne gave orders that it should be reduced to such ruin that it could never stand another. The town is chiefly famous for the See also:castle and See also:park that See also:bear its name. Originally a stronghold of the Croy See also:family, it has passed through the D'Arenbergs to its See also:present owners, the princes of Caraman-Chimay.
