In 1873—83 he was Royall See also:professor of law at Harvard; in 1883 he was transferred to the professor-See also:ship which after 1893 was known as the Weld professorship and which he held until his See also:death on the 14th of See also:February 1902. He took an especial See also:interest in the See also:historical See also:evolution of law.
