He received some of his academical See also:education in See also:Dublin. In 1868 he made a thorough study of See also:trade-unionism in See also:England, which resulted in his See also:principal See also:work, See also:Die Arbeitergilden der Gegenwart (See also:Leipzig, 1871–1872; Eng. trans. by L. T. See also:Smith). The See also:book was assailed by B amberger and other economists, but is important not only as an authority on See also:modern associations of workmen, but for having given an impetus to the study of the See also:gilds of the See also:middle ages, and the examination of the See also:great stores of neglected See also:information bearing upon the See also:condition of the See also:people in olden days.
