FARINGDON , properly See also:

GREAT FARINGDON, a See also:market See also:town in the See also:Abingdon See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Berkshire, See also:England, 17 M. W.S.W. of See also:Oxford by road. Pop.. (19o1) 2900. It lies on the slope of a See also:low range of hills which See also:borders the valley of the See also:Thames on the See also:south. It is the See also:terminus of a See also:branch of the Great Western railway from Uffington. The See also:church of All See also:Saints is a large cruciform See also:building with low central See also:tower. Its See also:period is mainly Transitional See also:Norman and See also:Early See also:English, and though considerably altered by restoration it contains some See also:good details, with many monuments and See also:brasses. Faringdon See also:House, See also:close to the church, was built by See also:Henry See also:James See also:Pye (1745–1813), poet See also:laureate from 1790 to 1813, who also caused to be planted the conspicuous See also:group of See also:fir-trees on the See also:hill See also:east of the town called Faringdon See also:Clump, or locally (like other similar See also:groups) the Folly. The See also:trade of Faringdon is agricultural.
