city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Hancock county, See also:Ohio, U.S.A., on See also:Blanchard's See also:Fork of the Auglaize See also:river, about 42 M. S. by W. of See also:Toledo. 'Pop. (189o) 18,5J3; (1900) 17,613, (1051 See also:foreign-See also:born) ; (191o) 14,858. It is served by the See also:Cleveland, See also:Cincinnati, See also:Chicago & St See also:Louis, the Cincinnati, See also:Hamilton & See also:Dayton, the See also:Lake See also:Erie & Western, and the Ohio Central See also:railways, and by three interurban electric railways. Findlay lies about 78o ft. above See also:sea-level on gently See also:rolling ground. The city is the seat of Findlay See also:College (co-educational), an institution of the See also:Church of See also:God, chartered in 1882 and opened in 1886; it has collegiate, preparatory, normal, commercial and theological departments, a school of expression, and a conservatory of See also:music, and in 1907 had 588 students, the See also:majority of whom were in the conservatory of music. Findlay is the centre of the Ohio natural See also:gas and oil region, and See also:lime and See also:building See also:stone abound in the vicinity. Among manufactures are refined See also:petroleum, See also:flour and grist-See also:mill products, See also:glass, boilers, bricks, See also:tile, pottery, See also:bridges, ditching See also:machines, carriages and See also:furniture. The See also:total value of the factory product in 1905 was $2,925,309, an increase of ?3.6 % since 1900. The See also:municipality owns and operates the See also:water-See also:works. Findlay was laid out as a See also:town in 1821, was incorporated as a See also:village in 1838, and was chartered as a city in 189o.
