GRANTOWN , the See also:

capital of Speyside, See also:Elginshire, See also:Scotland. Pop. (1901) 1568. It lies on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:Spey, 234 M. S. of See also:Forres by the Highland railway, with a station on the See also:Great See also:North of Scotland's Speyside See also:line connecting Craigellachie with See also:Boat of Garten. It was founded in 1776 by See also:Sir See also:James See also:Grant of Grant, and became the See also:chief seat of that See also:ancient See also:family, who had lived on their adjoining See also:estate of Freuchie (Gaelic, fraochach, " heathery ") since the beginning of the 15th See also:century, and hence were usually described as the lairds of Freuchie.
