LEYTON , an See also:

urban See also:district forming one of the See also:north-eastern suburbs of See also:London. See also:England, in the See also:Walthamstow (S.W.) See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Essex. Pop. (1891) 63,106; (19o1) 98,912. It lies on the See also:east (See also:left) See also:bank of the See also:Lea, along the See also:flat open valley of which runs the boundary between Essex and the See also:county of London. The See also:church of St See also:Mary, mainly a See also:brick reconstruction, contains several interesting memorials; including one to See also:William See also:Bowyer the printer (d. 1737), erected by his son and namesake, more famous in the same See also:trade. Here is also buried See also:John See also:Strype the historian and biographer (d. 1737), who held the position of See also:curate and lecturer at this church. Leyton is in the See also:main a residential as distinct from a manufacturing locality. Its name is properly See also:Low Leyton, and the See also:parish includes the district of Leytonstone to the east. See also:Roman remains have been discovered here, but no See also:identification with a Roman station by name has been made with certainty.
