MEHIDPUR, or MAFIIDPUR , a See also:town of See also:India, in See also:Indore See also:state of Central India, on the right See also:bank of the Sipra, 1543 ft. above the See also:sea, and 24 M. N. of See also:Ujjain. Pop. (1901), 6681. Though of some antiquity and frequented by See also:Hindu pilgrims, it is best known for the See also:battle fought in the neighbourhood on the loth of See also:December 1817, in which See also:Sir See also:John See also:Malcolm defeated the See also:army of See also:Holkar. The result was the Treaty of See also:Mandasor and the pacification of See also:Malwa. Mehidpur was again the See also:scene of some See also:sharp fighting during the See also:Mutiny. The See also:British See also:cantonment, placed here in 1817, was removed in 1882.
