He was originally apprenticed to what is called a See also:bright engraver, and practised as a See also:writing engraver, but gradually became inspired by the higher branches of the engraver's See also:art. Among his earlier plates are some illustrations, after See also:Stothard, for the Novelists' See also:Magazine. He engraved the " Doctors Disputing on the Immaculateness of the Virgin " and the " Ecce Homo " of Guido Reni, the ";St See also:Cecilia" of See also:Domenichino, the " Virgin and See also:Child" of See also:Dolci, and the portrait of See also:John See also:Hunter of See also:Sir See also:Joshua See also:Reynolds. His See also:style of en-graving is thoroughly masterly and See also:original, excellent in its See also:play of line and rendering of See also:half-tints and of " See also:colour." He died at See also:Chiswick on the 25th of See also:July 1824. In his youth, owing to his hotly expressed adherence to the politics of See also:Paine and See also:Horne See also:Tooke, he was examined by the privy See also:council on a See also:charge of See also:treason. See also:Mesmer and See also:Brothers found in Sharp a stanch believer and for See also:long he maintained See also:Joanna See also:Southcott at his own expense. As an engraver he achieved a See also:European reputation, and at the, See also:- TIME (0. Eng. Lima, cf.
