SHARP, See also:RICHARD (1759-1835) , known as " Conversation Sharp," was See also:born in See also:Newfoundland in 1759, the son of a See also:British officer in See also:garrison there. He was for many years in business in See also:London, and amassed a large See also:fortune. He was the See also:host of leading See also:literary and See also:political men at his houses in See also:Park See also:Lane and near See also:Dorking. See also:Johnson, See also:Burke, See also:Rogers, See also:Hallam, See also:Grattan, See also:Sydney See also:Smith, See also:James See also:Mill, See also:Wordsworth and See also:Coleridge were among his many See also:friends. From r8o6 to 1812 he was M.P. for See also:Castle Rising, and subsequently he represented Portarlingtonand See also:Ilchester. He was the author of a See also:volume of Letters and Essays in See also:Prose and See also:Verse (1834), which the Quarterly See also:Review declared to be remarkable for " See also:wisdom, wit, knowledge of the See also:world and See also:sound ctiticism." Sharp died at See also:Dorchester on the 3oth of See also:March 1835.
