REHAN, ADA (186o- ) , See also:American actress, whose real name was Crehan, was See also:born in See also:Limerick, See also:Ireland, on the 22nd of See also:April 186o. Her parents removed to the See also:United States when she was five years old, and it was in See also:Newark, N.J., that in 1874 she made her first See also:stage See also:appearance in a small See also:part in Across the See also:Continent. She was with Mrs See also:John See also:Drew's stock See also:company in See also:Philadelphia, John W. Albaugh's in See also:Albany and See also:Baltimore, and other companies for several seasons, playing every See also:kind of See also:minor part, until she became connected with Augustin See also:Daly's theatrical management in 1879. Under his training she soon showed her talents for vivid, charming portrayal of See also:character, first in See also:modern and then in older comedies. She was the heroine in all the Daly adaptations from the See also:German, and added to her triumphs the parts of Peggy in Wycherly's See also:Country Girl, Julia in the Hunchback, and especially Katharina in The Taming of the See also:Shrew, besides playing Rosalind and See also:Viola. See also:Miss Rehan accompanied Daly's company to See also:England (first in 1884), See also:France and See also:Germany (1886).
