TECK , a ducal See also:castle in the See also:kingdom of See also:Wurttemberg, immediately to the N. of the Swabian See also:Jura and S. of the See also:town of Kirchheim, crowning a See also:ridge (2544 ft.) of the same name.
It was destroyed in the Peasants' See also:War (1525).
The duchy of Teck was acquired See also:early in the 11th See also:century
by Berthold, See also:count of See also:Zahringen, whose See also:great-See also:grandson See also:Albert, or See also:Adalbert, styled himself See also:duke of Teck. In 1381 it passed both by See also:conquest and See also:purchase to Wurttemberg. The See also:title, which had lapsed with the extinction of the Zahringen See also:line in
1439, was revived in 1495 by the See also:German See also:- KING
