In 1813 she married Auguste Armand Vestris (see above), who deserted her four years later. With an agreeable See also:contralto See also:voice and a pleasing See also:face and figure, Madame Vestris had made her first See also:appearance in See also:Italian See also:opera in the See also:title-role of See also:Peter See also:Winter's Il ratio di Proserpina at the See also:King's See also:Theatre in 1815. She had an immediate success in both London and See also:Paris, where she played Camille to See also:Talma's See also:Horace in Horace. Her first See also:hit in English was at See also:Drury See also:Lane in See also:James See also:Cobb's (1756—1818) See also:Siege of See also:Bel-grade (1820). She was particularly a favourite in "breeches parts," like Cherubino in the See also:Marriage of See also:Figaro, and in See also:Don Giovanni, and with such introduced songs as " See also:Cherry Ripe," " Meet me by, moonlight alone," " I've been roaming," etc. In 1831, having accumulated a See also:fortune, she became, lessee of the Olympic Theatre, and began the, presentation of a See also:series of burlesques and extravaganzas- for which she made this See also:house famous. She married See also:Charles James See also:Mathews in 1838, accompanying him to See also:America and aiding him in his subsequent managerial ventures. Her last appearance (1854) was' for his benefit in an See also:adaptation of Madame de See also:Girardin',s; Lai pia fait See also:pear, called See also:Sunshine through Clouds, and she died in London on the 8th of See also:August 1856. Her musical accomplishments and See also:education were not ' sufficient to distinguish her in See also:grand opera, and in high See also:comedy she was only moderately successful. But in plays like See also:Loan of a See also:Lover, See also:Paul Pry, See also:Naval Engagements, etc., she was delightfully See also:arch and bewitching.
