She persuaded White and others that she was a See also:saint with a See also:special See also:mission, that in fact she was the woman, and White the See also:man-See also:child, described in See also:Revelation xii. White was condemned by the See also:presbytery, and the sect, which ultimately numbered See also:forty-six adherents, was expelled by the magistrates in 1784 and settled in a See also:farm, consisting of one See also:room and a See also:loft, known as New Cample in See also:Dumfriesshire. Mrs Buchan claimed prophetic See also:inspiration and pretended to confer the See also:Holy See also:Ghost upon her followers by breathing upon them; they believed that the See also:millennium was near, and that they would not See also:die, but be translated. It appears that they had community of wives and lived on funds provided by the richer members. Robert See also:Burns, the poet, in a See also:letter dated See also:August 1784, describes the sect as idle and immoral.
