DORISLAUS, See also:ISAAC (1595–1649) , Anglo–Dutch lawyer and diplomatist, was See also:born in 1595 at See also:Alkmaar, See also:Holland, the son of a See also:minister of the Dutch reformed See also:church. He was educated at See also:Leiden, removed to See also:England about 1627, and was appointed to a lectureship in See also:history at See also:Cambridge, where his See also:attempt to justify the Dutch revolt against See also:Spain led to his See also:early resignation. In 1629 he was admitted a commoner of the See also:College of See also:Advocates. In 1632 he made his See also:peace at See also:court, and on two occasions acted as See also:judge See also:advocate, in the bishops' See also:war of 164o and in 1642 in the See also:army commanded by See also:Essex. In 1648 he became one of the See also:judges of the See also:admiralty court, and was sent on a See also:diplomatic errand to the states See also:general of Holland. He assisted in preparing the See also:charge of high See also:treason against See also:Charles I.,and,while negotiating an See also:alliance between the See also:Commonwealth and the Dutch See also:Republic, was murdered at the See also:Hague by royalist refugees on the loth of May 1649. His remains were buried in See also:Westminster See also:Abbey, and moved in 1661 to St See also:Margaret's See also:churchyard.
