He was also See also:vice-See also:chancellor of the university in 1606 and 1614. His ecclesiastical career began somewhat unpromisingly, for he was censured by See also:Archbishop See also:Whitgift for Romanist tendencies in a See also:sermon which he preached against See also:predestination in 1584. After holding the living of See also:Chigwell (1597—1605) he became See also:chaplain to See also:Bancroft (then bishop of See also:London), and afterwards See also:archdeacon of See also:Essex (1603-1609), See also:rector of Stisted and bishop of See also:Chichester (1609–1619) and archbishop of York (1629). He died on the 25th of May 1631. Harsnett was no favourite with the Puritan community, and See also:Charles I. ordered his Considerations for the better Settling of See also:- CHURCH
