He was one of the clerks at the See also:Westminster See also:Assembly, one of See also:Cromwell's chaplains and a " See also:trier," and held livings at Stoke Newington (1645) and St See also:Paul's, Covent See also:Garden (1656). He disapproved of the See also:execution of See also:Charles I. In 1658 he assisted See also:Baxter to draw up the " Fundamentals of See also:Religion." He helped to restore Charles II. and became one of his chaplains, refusing the deanery of See also:Rochester. In 1662 he lost his living under the See also:Act of Uniformity and preached in his own rooms and in other parts of See also:London. For this he was arrested in 167o. His See also:works are best known in the collected edition by J. C. See also:Ryle (22 vols. 1870-1875). See also:MAN-TRAPS, See also:mechanical devices for catching poachers and trespassers. They have taken many forms, the most usual being like a large See also:rat-See also:trap, the See also:steel springs being armed with See also:teeth which met in the victim's See also:leg.

Since 1827 they have been illegal in See also:

England, except in houses between sunset and sunrise as a See also:defence against burglars.
