ROSAMOND , known as " The See also:

Fair " (d. c. 1176), See also:mistress of See also:Henry II., See also:king of See also:England, is believed to have been the daughter of See also:Walter de See also:Clifford of the See also:family of Fitz-See also:Ponce. The See also:evidence for the paternity is, however, only an entry of a statement made by the jurors of the See also:manor of Corfham in a See also:Hundred See also:Roll of the second See also:year of the reign of See also:Edward I. (1274), See also:great See also:grandson of Henry II. She died in or about 1176, and was buried in the nunnery See also:church of Godstow before the high See also:altar. The See also:body was removed by See also:order of St See also:Hugh, See also:bishop of See also:Lincoln, in 1r9r, and was, seemingly, reinterred in the See also:chapter See also:house. The See also:story that she was poisoned by See also:Queen Eleanor first appears in the See also:French See also:Chronicle of See also:London in the 14th See also:century. The romantic details of the See also:labyrinth at See also:Wood-stock, and the See also:clue which guided King Henry II. to her See also:bower, were the inventions of story-writers of later times.
