The name was also applied to the See also:great See also:plain (Esdraelon) dominated by the See also:city (" valley of Jezreel," Josh. xvii. 16, &c.). The site has never been lost, and the See also:present See also:village Zercin retains the name radically unchanged. In See also:Greek (e.g. See also:Judith) the name appears under the See also:form'Eabpa17X&; it is Stradela in the See also:Bordeaux See also:Pilgrim, and to the Crusaders the See also:place was known as Parvum Gerinum. The See also:modern See also:stone village stands on a See also:bare rocky knoll, 5ooft. above the broad See also:northern valley, at the See also:north extremity of a See also:long ledge, terminating in steep cliffs, forming See also:part of the See also:chain of Mt Gilboa. The buildings are modern, but some scanty remains of See also:rock-hewn See also:wine presses and a few scattered sarcophagi See also:mark the antiquity of the site. The view over the plains is See also:fine and extensive.

It is vain now to look for Ahab's See also:

palace or Naboth's vineyard. The See also:fountain mentioned in I Sam. xxix. I is perhaps the fine See also:spring `See also:Ain el Meiyyita, north of the village, a shallow See also:pool of See also:good See also:water full of small See also:fish, rising between See also:black See also:basalt boulders: or more probably the copious `Ain Jalud. A second city named Jezreel See also:lay in the See also:hill See also:country of See also:Judah, somewhere near See also:Hebron (Josh. xv. 56).
