Susanna Blamire's earliest poem is " Written in a See also:Churchyard, on seeing a number of See also:cattle grazing," in See also:imitation of See also:Gray. She lived an uneventful See also:life among the farmers of the neighbourhood, and her gaiety and See also:good-See also:humour made her a favourite in rustic society. In 1767 her See also:elder See also:sister Sarah married See also:Colonel See also:Graham of Gartmore. " An See also:Epistle to her See also:friends at Gartmore " gives a playful description of the monotonous simplicity of her life. To her See also:Perthshire visits her songs in the Scottish See also:vernacular are no doubt partly due. Her See also:chief friend was Catharine See also:Gilpin of Scaleby See also:Castle. The two ladies spent the winters together in See also:Carlisle, and wrote poems in See also:common. Susanna Blamire died in Carlisle on the 5th of See also:April 1794. The poems which were not collected during her lifetime, were first published in 1842 by See also:Henry See also:Lonsdale as The Poetical See also:Works of See also:Miss Susanna Blamire, " the Muse of Cumberland," with a memoir by Mr See also:Patrick See also:Maxwell. Some of her songs See also:rank among the very best of See also:north-See also:country lyrics.

silk attire " and " What ails this See also:heart o' mine," are well known, and were included in See also:Johnson's Scots' Musical Museum.
