Henry Prinsep was an intimate friend of G. F. See also:Watts, under whom his son first studied. Val Prinsep also worked in See also:Paris in the atelier See also:Gleyre; and " Taffy " in his friend Du Maurier's novel Trilby, is said to have been sketched from him. He was an intimate friend of See also:Millais and of Burne-See also:Jones, with whom he travelled in See also:Italy. He had a See also:share with See also:Rossetti and others in the decoration of the See also:hall of the See also:Oxford See also:Union. He first exhibited at the Royal See also:Academy in 1862 with his " Bianca See also:Capella," his first picture, which attracted marked See also:notice, being a portrait (1866) of See also:General See also:Gordon in See also:Chinese See also:costume; the best of his later exhibits were " A See also:Versailles," " The See also:Emperor See also:Theophilus chooses his Wife," " The Broken Idol " and " The See also:Goose Girl." He was elected A.R.A. in 1879 and R.A. in 1894. In 1877 he went to India and painted a huge picture of the See also:Delhi See also:durbar, exhibited in I88o, and afterwards hung at See also:Buckingham See also:Palace. He married in 1884 See also:Florence, daughter of the well-known See also:col-See also:lector, See also:Frederick Leyland. Prinsep wrote two plays, See also:Cousin See also:Dick and See also:Monsieur le Duc, produced at the See also:Court and the St See also:James's theatres respectively; two novels; and Imperial India: an Artist's See also:Journal (1879).

He was an enthusiastic volunteer, and one of the founders of the Artists' See also:

Corps. He died on the 11th of See also:November 1904.
