He graduated at the See also:College of See also:William and See also:Mary, studied See also:law at the Inner See also:Temple, See also:London, and in 1748 was appointed the king's attorney for Virginia.' Randolph wrote the address of remonstrance to the king in behalf of the Burgesses against the suggested See also:stamp duties in 1764. His policy was conservative and moderate, and in May 1765 he opposed See also:Patrick See also:Henry's See also:radical " Stamp See also:Act Resolutions." In 1766 he resigned as king's attorney and was succeeded by his See also:brother John (1727-1784). In 1769 he acted as See also:moderator of the privately convened See also:assembly which entered into the non-importation agreement, and in May 1773 he became chairman of the first Virginia intercolonial See also:committee of See also:correspondence. He presided over the provincial See also:convention of See also:August 1774, and was a member of the First See also:Continental See also:Congress, of which he was See also:president from the 5th of See also:September to the 22nd of See also:October 1774. He was re-elected to Congress in See also:March 1775, and on the loth of May was again chosen to preside, but on the 24th he See also:left to attend a See also:meeting at Williamsburg of the Virginia Burgesses. _ He then returned to Congress, of which John See also:Hancock had meanwhile been made president. Randolph died of See also:apoplexy in See also:Philadelphia on the 22nd of October 1775. He was provincial See also:grand-See also:master of the Masons of Virginia, and was an intimate friend of See also:Washington.
