In 1618 James transmitted orders to the See also:clergy of the whole of See also:England to read the declaration from the See also:pulpit; but so strong was the opposition that he prudently withdrew his command (See also:Wilson, in Kennet, ii. 709; See also:Fuller, Church See also:History, v. 452). In 1633 See also:Charles I. not only directed the republication of his See also:father's declaration (See also:Rushworth, ii. 193) but insisted upon the See also:reading of it by the clergy. Many of the clergy were punished for refusing to obey the See also:injunction. With the fall of See also:Laud all attempts to enforce it necessarily came to an end.
