In 188o–1883 he was commander-in-See also:chief of the fleet in the Mediterranean, and in 188o had also the chief command of the See also:European squadron sent to the See also:coast of See also:Albania as a demonstration to compel the See also:Porte to cede See also:Dulcigno to See also:Montenegro. On the 24th of May 1881 he was made a G.C.B., and on the 6th of May 1882 was promoted to the See also:rank of admiral.
