After the loth of See also:August 1792 he withdrew to the Pays de See also:Vaud, and did not return to See also:France till 1795. In public See also:life, however, he seems to have been singularly fortunate. In 1797 he was on the See also:list of candidates for the See also:Directory; in 1800 he was See also:prefect of See also:Seine-et-See also:Oise; and in 1804 he was made senator and in r8o8 a See also:count. After the Restoration he obtained a See also:peerage, and on the return of See also:- LOUIS
