The See also:English dukes of Grafton are descended from See also:HENRY See also:FITZROY (1663-169o), the natural son of See also:Charles II. by See also:Barbara See also:Villiers (countess of See also:Castlemaine and duchess of See also:Cleveland). In 1672 he was married to the daughter and heiress of the See also:earl of See also:Arlington and created earl of Euston; in 1675 he was created See also:duke of Grafton. He was brought up as a sailor, and saw military service at the See also:siege of See also:Luxemburg in 1684. At See also:James II.'s See also:coronation he was See also:lord high See also:constable. In the See also:rebellion of the duke of See also:Monmouth he commanded the royal troops in See also:Somersetshire; but later he acted with See also:Churchill (duke of See also:Marlborough), and joined See also:William of See also:Orange against the See also:king. He died of a See also:wound received at the storming of See also:Cork, while leading William's forces, being succeeded as and duke by his son Charles (1682–17J7).
