In 1455 she married See also:Edmund Tudor, See also:earl of Richmond, who died in the following See also:year; she then took for her See also:husband Henry (d. 1482), son of See also:Humphrey See also:Stafford, duke of See also:Buckingham, and later See also:Thomas See also:Stanley, afterwards earl of Derby. She was in See also:constant communication with her son, the future king, during his See also:exile in See also:Brittany, and with her husband, See also:Lord Stanley, aided him to gain the See also:crown in 1485. The countess was very pious and charitable, and under the See also:influence of her See also:confessor, John See also:Fisher, afterwards See also:bishop of See also:Rochester, she founded the See also:Lady Margaret professorships of divinity at the See also:universities of See also:Oxford and Cambridge. She completed the See also:foundation of Christ's See also:College, Cambridge, and after her See also:death, in accordance with her wishes, much of her See also:wealth was devoted to See also:building and endowing St John's College in the same university. She survived her son, whose See also:title to the English See also:throne was derived through her, and died on the 29th of See also:June 1509. The countess translated some devotional books into English, and Fisher said of her, " All See also:England for her death had cause of weeping." See C. H.
