Condom (Condomus) was founded in the 8th century, but in 84o was sacked and burnt by the See also:Normans. See also:Round this See also:abbey the town See also:grew up, and in 1317 was made into an episcopal see by See also:Pope See also:John XXII, The See also:line of bishops, which included See also:Bossuet (1668-1671), came to an end in 1790 when the see was suppressed. Condom was, during the See also:middle ages, a fortress of considerable strength. During the See also:Hundred Years' See also:War, after several unsuccessful attempts, it was finally captured and held by the See also:English. In 1569 it was sacked by the See also:Huguenots under See also:Gabriel, See also:count of See also:Montgomery.
