BEAUMONT (1104–1166) obtained his See also:father's See also:French fiefs and the See also:title of See also:count of Meulan in 1118. After being imprisoned for five years by See also:Henry I. he spent some See also:time in See also:England, and during the See also:civil See also:war between See also:Stephen and the empress See also:Matilda he fought for the former until about 1150, when he deserted the See also:king and assisted the empress. His later See also:history appears to have been uneventful. The See also:county of Meulan remained in See also:possession of the Beaumont See also:family until 1204, when it was See also:united with the royal domain. Another member of the Beaumont family, possibly a relative of the earlier Beaumonts, was Lours DE BEAUMONT (d. 1333), See also:bishop of See also:Durham from 1317 until his See also:death. This See also:prelate was related to the See also:English king, See also:Edward II., and after a See also:life spent in strife and ostentation, he died on the 24th of See also:September 1333. See also:JOHN BEAUMONT, See also:master of the rolls under Edward VI., was probably a member of the same family. A dishonest and corrupt See also:judge, he was deprived of his See also:office and imprisoned in 1552• The See also:barony of Beaumont See also:dates from 1309, when HENRY BEAUMONT (d. 1340), who was See also:constable of England in 1322, was summoned to See also:parliament under this title. It was retained by his descendants until the death of See also:William, the 7th See also:baron and the end See also:viscount,' in 1507, when it See also:fell into See also:abeyance. In 184o the barony was revived in favour of See also:Miles See also:Thomas Stapleton (1805-1854), a descendant of See also:Joan, Baroness Lovel, a daughter 1 His father John (d.

1460), the 6th baron, See also:

great See also:chamberlain and constable of England, was the first See also:person advanced to the dignity of a viscount in England.of the 6th baron, and it has since been retained by his descendants. In 1906 WENTWORTIr BLACKETT BEAUMONT (1829-1907), the See also:head of a family well known in the See also:north of England, was created Baron Allendale.
