Being designed for the legal profession, he was sent to See also:Windsor, and apprenticed to an See also:attorney; but his tastes soon led him. to abandon the study of See also:law and to devote himself entirely to literature. In 1736 he published the Military See also:History of See also:Prince See also:Eugene and the See also:Duke of See also:Marlborough, and soon after contributed several important articles to the See also:Ancient Universal History. In 1742 and 1744 appeared the Lives of the See also:British Admirals, in 4 vols., a popular See also:work which has been continued by other authors. Besides contributing to the Biographia Britannica and See also:Dodsley's See also:Preceptor, he published a work on The See also:Present See also:State of See also:Europe, consisting of a See also:series of papers which had appeared in the Museum. He also wrote the histories of the Portuguese, Dutch, See also:Spanish, See also:French, See also:Swedish, Danish and See also:Ostend settlements in the See also:East Indies, and the histories of See also:Spain, See also:Portugal, See also:Algarve, See also:Navarre and See also:France, from the See also:- TIME (0. Eng. Lima, cf. Icel. timi, Swed. timme, hour, Dan. time; from the root also seen in " tide," properly the time of between the flow and ebb of the sea, cf. O. Campbell died on the 28th of See also:December 1775. He received the honorary degree of LL.D. from the university of See also:Glasgow in 1745.
