On taking his degree he was elected a See also:fellow of his college, and soon afterwards wrote the See also:comedy of Loiola (London, 1648), which was twice performed before See also:James I. He was ordained in 1618, and through the See also:influence of John See also:Williams (1582-1650) became See also:rector in 1621 of Stoke See also:Hammond, Bucks, and See also:Kirkby Underwood, See also:Lincolnshire. In 1623 he was See also:chaplain to James, and in 1624 Williams presented him to the livings of St See also:Andrew's, See also:Holborn, and Cheam, See also:Surrey. When the so-called " See also:root-and-See also:branch See also:bill " was before See also:parliament in 1641, Hacket was selected to plead in the See also:House of See also:Commons for the continuance of See also:cathedral establishments. In 1645 his living of St Andrew's was sequestered, but he was allowed to retain the rectory of Cheam. On the See also:accession of See also:Charles II. his fortunes improved; he frequently preached before the See also:king, and in 1661 was consecrated bishop of Lichfield and Coventry. His best-known See also:book is the excellent See also:biography of his See also:patron, See also:Archbishop Williams, entitled Scrinia reserata: a Memorial offered to the See also:great Deservings of John Williams, D.D. (London, 1693).
