The ruins of the small See also:chapel dedicated to him, which was a favourite See also:place of See also:pilgrimage, still exist. The place where the pilgrims—of whom See also:James IV. was often one—landed is yet known as Pilgrims' Haven, and traces may yet be seen of the various See also:wells of St See also:Andrew, St See also:John, Our See also:Lady, and the Pilgrims, though their See also:waters have become brackish. In 1499 See also:Sir Andrew See also:Wood of Largo, with the "Yellow Carvel " and " See also:Mayflower," captured the See also:English See also:seaman See also:Stephen See also:Bull, and three See also:ships, after a fierce fight which took place between the island and the See also:Bass See also:Rock. In 1636 a See also:coal See also:beacon was lighted on the May and maintained by See also:Alexander See also:Cunningham of Barns. The oil See also:light substituted for it in 1816 was replaced in 1888 by an electric light.
