In 1437 See also:Nicole de was deprived of Penthievre by the duke of Brittany, See also:Francis II., in 1465. The countship, which was restored to See also:Sebastian of See also:Luxemburg, heir of the See also:Brosses through his See also:mother, was erected for him into a duchy in the See also:peerage of See also:France (duche-pairie) in 1569, and was afterwards held by the duchess of Mercceur, daughter of the first duke of Penthievre, and then by her daughter, the duchess of See also:Vendome. The duchess of Vendome's See also:grandson, See also:Louis See also:Joseph, inherited Penthievre in 1669, but it was taken from him by See also:decree in 1687 and adjudged to See also:Anne See also:Marie de See also:Bourbon, princess of See also:Conti. In 1696 it was sold to the count of See also:Toulouse, whose son See also:bore the See also:title of duke of Penthievre. This title passed by See also:inheritance to the house of See also:Orleans.
