QUOTATION , a passage repeated from the writings or speech of another. The verb " to quote " comes from Med. See also:

Lat.quotare (from quot, how many), to refer to by See also:numbers, i.e. of See also:page, See also:chapter, &c., also to See also:separate into chapters, verses, &c.
