Several parks have been laid out on the site of the broad See also:glacis which formerly separated Temesvar from its suburbs, which are now See also:united with it by broad avenues. Its See also:industrial establishments include factories for See also:tobacco, See also:cloth, matches, See also:leather, artificial manure, besides breweries and distilleries.
Temesvar is an old town, and although destroyed by the See also:Tatars in 1242, it was a populous See also:place at the beginning of the 14th See also:century, and was strongly fortified by See also:- KING

In 1514 the See also:peasant See also:leader, See also:Stephan See also:Dozsa, was defeated by the Transylvanian voivod, See also:John Zapolya, near Temesvar, captured and executed. Unsuccessfully besieged by the See also:Turks in 1552, it was captured by them in the following See also:year after a heroic resistance. It remained in their hands until 1716, when it was liberated by See also:Prince See also:Eugene of See also:Savoy. New strong fortifications were erected, and the town See also:grew steadily in importance, se;ving as the capital of the whole See also:Banat. It endured another siege in 1849, when it resisted successfully the attacks of a Hungarian revolutionary army.
