BADBY, See also:JOHN (d. 1410) , one of the See also:early Lollard martyrs, was a tailor (or perhaps a blacksmith) in the See also:west Midlands, and was condemned by the See also:Worcester diocesan See also:court for his denial of See also:transubstantiation. Badby bluntly maintained that when See also:Christ sat at supper with his disciples he had not his See also:body in his See also:hand to distribute, and that " if every See also:host consecrated at the See also:altar were the See also:Lord's body, then there be 20,000 Gods in See also:England." A further court in St See also:Paul's, See also:London, presided over by See also:Archbishop See also:Arundel, condemned him to be burned at See also:Smith-See also:field, the See also:tournament ground just outside the See also:city walls. It is said that the See also:prince of See also:Wales (afterwards See also:Henry V.) witnessed the See also:execution and offered the sufferer both See also:life and a See also:pension if he would recant; but in See also:Walsingham's words, " the abandoned villain declined the prince's See also:advice, and See also:chose rather to be burned thanto give reverence to the life-giving See also:sacrament.
